Let's start at the very beginning.....

... with my basic parenting style.

My Boy is almost three. Every age has been my favorite. I somehow got lucky enough to wind up with the blond haired, blue eyed cherub who has never had a problem sleeping, who gave up his bottles on his own, who is happy and cheerful and pretty much awesome. Yeah, he throws a mean tantrum, and this is something we have had to LEARN about, since before the age of 2 1/2 there was nary a tantrum to be found. I KNOW. I had to get BOOKS in order to determine what our discipline style was going to be.

There are freezie pops, plastic toys, and Goldfish in my house. There is also organic milk and no physical discipline. Unless you count time out to be physical. Which I don't. We are big old hippies who sincerely miss our days with my husband's a capella group, but now we're parents and we basically hang out with the other former-a-capella-families, most of whom have kids right around the age of our Boy.

Sometimes I don't know what the heck I'm doing. I love to plan his birthday parties (and HOO BOY is he getting spoiled in approximately six weeks.... two words: POWER. WHEELS.) My favorite thing in the whole wide world is reading to my Boy, which is made even better by the fact that he loves being read to. Sorry kiddo, you are going to be a dork like your parents.

Parenting is not my everything, but I struggle to find time for anything else. I seem to be a person who needs a lot of sleep, so once our Boy is sound asleep right at 8 (again, I KNOW) and the various kid detritus is picked up, I am up for about one episode of Something Ridiculous streaming over the Wii (see: Army Wives) and that's it. Our social life these days consists of escaping to weddings (tm Nana!) and playdates. But maybe that's fine? We are making an effort, now that we're coming out of the baby/toddler haze, to see Other Adults and speak in sentences that do not include the word "potty". But honestly, we have so much fun with the Boy that sometimes it doesn't even matter.

Basically we are five years old.

So that's a beginning. Not sure where this will go, if it will ever go anywhere. But there's the start.
